Week 2 received us in the Chiriquí Highlands with clouds and rain and sunshine! The artists, José Carlos, Román, Carlos and Carolina stayed in Hotel Los Quetzales, where they were also able to work on their projects in the hotel’s very comfortable living room space. Us facilitators stayed in El Jilguero, which will soon be the home of the artists for the next two weeks. The scientists, Aracelly, Ariadna and Viviana went back to their homes and day-to-day in UNACHI, but they took a few days off during the week to do field visits with their artists, feedback sessions with the whole group and prepare the work in progress showing last Friday the 30th of October in the Mercado Artesanal de Volcán.

Each team went deep into the process of recollecting specimens or data in the field, as well as the work that the Doctors do regularly in the UNACHI laboratories. During these days, full of movement and experiences, new questions arose as well as clarity for their creative directions in each project. The facilitation team held feedback sessions with each artist-scientist team to support them in their joint creative process.

As planned, we organised a sharing of the work in progress with the local community in the Mercado Artesanal de Volcán. It was a great opportunity for the teams to try out some of their ideas with an audience that could identify directly with the topics or places that each research addresses.

In the next two weeks, the artists will go deeper into their individual creative processes, counting on the support of the scientists and the facilitators to help them finalise their pieces or products of this Art and Science Laboratory.

As well as the organisations that make this project possible: SENACYT (Panama), Arts Collaboratory (Holland), Teroética (Costa Rica), Fundación Alemán Healy (Panama), we also had the generous support of Gorace Orgánicos, El Mercado Artesanal de Volcán, working space at the Hotel and Spa Los Quetzales, and the moral support of  Patricia Miranda Allen.
